MP calls on Planning Minister to help council start Edgars Rd extension
THE pressure for Whittlesea Council to build the Edgars Rd extension is growing.
Thomastown state Labor MP Bronwyn Halfpenny has called on Planning Minister Richard Wynne to intervene to assist the council complete the extension, between Cooper St and O’Herns Rd.
She said the council’s lack of action on Edgars Rd was “stifling economic development” and creating “catastrophic local traffic congestion”.
Ms Halfpenny said she had called on the council “many times” to build the road now and recoup the money through developer contributions later.
“The situation is so desperate I have now asked the minister … to intervene and bring forward developer contributions so council can no longer make excuses and force them to urgently build the road,” she said.
Whittlesea Mayor Ricky Kirkham said building Edgars Rd was a priority.
“A developer recently purchased the land which the road will run through and council will negotiate with the developer to have it built as soon as possible,” Cr Kirkham said.
